Applications of Hypnosis in Mind-Body MedicineZoom Webinar, CE: 3 Hours
Workshop Description:
This introductory workshop provides an overview of the application of clinical hypnosis in psychotherapy practice. It is targeted to an audience who is interested in discovering the uses of gaining clinical hypnosis certification or exploring which treatment plans should potentially include a referral for adjunct clinical hypnosis. The main reason it behooves clinicians to take this workshop is the myriad benefits of clinical hypnosis evidenced in the research that will be presented, and the relative lack of cost and negative side effects compared to medications.
Learning Objectives: | 1. Define hypnosis 2. Describe at least one Myth & one Misperception regarding hypnosis 3. Describe the relationship between Memory and hypnosis 4. Identify at least one quality of a Hypnotic Relationship 5. Identify at least one Hypnotic Phenomenon 6. Identify at least one standard Assessment of Hypnotizability 7. Identify the Stages of Hypnosis 8. Describe at least one Brain Research experiment focused on hypnosis 9. Identify at least one form of Self-Hypnosis 10. Describe at least one method of hypnosis-based Treatment Planning 11. Identify at least one aspect of Ethics specific to the clinical use of hypnosis with Diverse populations 12. About the Presenters: Darlene Viggiano, PhD (MFT) is part-time faculty of the College of Mind-Body Medicine, at Saybrook University in California, having taught Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Hypnosis and sitting on dissertation committees regarding clinical hypnosis. She is author of Dreams and Dream-like Experiences: Their Role in Spiritual Emergence Processes (Lambert Academic Publishing, 2011) and Carrying On: A Workbook for Women Who’ve Lost a Pregnancy (Lambert Academic Publishing, 2010). She developed an online course about hypnosis for John F. Kennedy University and taught psychology at the University of Phoenix. She has published nearly 40 articles and a chapter on topics within the fields of consciousness, hypnosis, psychology, spirituality, mental health, and integrative medicine. Her publications on mind-body medicine have led her to present workshops in states from California to Nevada and Hawaii. She has served on the Dissertation with Distinction selection committee, and on other culmination project committees at both Saybrook and the California Institute of Integral Studies. She has been practicing psychotherapy since 1999, currently in private practice. In this capacity, she has served Adults Molested as Children, Intensive Outpatient Program participants, the severely and persistently mentally ill, the dual diagnosis population, patients in need of skills such as anger management and socialization. She has also provided mindful movement practices, dream-work, and hypnosis. Dr. Viggiano also has held membership in CAMFT, APA Division 30 (Hypnosis), the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. She earned her PhD in psychology at Saybrook University in 2010, and thereafter earned the APA Division 30 Early Career Contributions to Hypnosis Award.  Melvin S. Marsh received his MS in Experimental Psychology in May 2021 from Georgia Southern University and has been practicing medically oriented hypnosis for the past 5 years in the Augusta Georgia area. He has presented research at GPA and will be presenting research at the APA in August 2021.
